How picking works

Show up, grab a bucket, take your time.

There's no ticket booth and no line. Park in the grass, find the rows that are open, and pick what you actually want to eat this week.

01

Come on an open day

Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 to 4, June through October. No appointment, no reservation, no entry fee.

02

Pick what's ready

Containers are here if you need them, though a flat box or a bucket from home works better. Ask which rows are open โ€” it changes week to week.

03

Weigh up and pay

Everything is priced by the pound or the bunch at the stand. Cards and cash both work.

Why no spray

Nothing goes on this ground that you wouldn't want on your hands.

No pesticides, no herbicides, no synthetic fertilizer โ€” not on the berries, not on the vegetables, not on the flowers. That's been true since the first row went in, and it's the reason people let their kids eat straight off the plant here.

It also means the field looks a little wilder than a commercial farm. There are weeds between the rows and bugs in the beans. That's the trade, and it's a good one.

Everything here gets picked by the person who's going to eat it. That's the whole idea. Bellingham Country Gardens

Before you drive out

Weather and picking change fast.

The quickest way to know what's ready this week is Facebook or Instagram โ€” both get updated the morning of an open day. Or just call the field.
